The Non Slip Loop Knot

The Palomar is a very simple yet extremely effective knot. It’s superbly secure, giving no slippage if bedded down correctly. This is one that many anglers favour and put confidence in for attaching their hooks, swivels and leaders.

The Non-Slip Mono Loop is also known as the “Kreh Loop” as it has been popularized by fishing legend Lefty Kreh. As its name suggests it forms a non-slip loop at the end of a fishing line. The loop connection to a fly or a lure can give the fly or lure more natural action. Some fishermen find the Kreh Loop easier to tie than the similar Rapala Knot and equally reliable. The Non Slip Loop Knot is one of 12 great fishing knots.

This version of the Albright special knot a little easier to tie than the regular version, and it’s even stronger. The extra wraps passing between the turned over leader material help to stop the coils of thinner main line from slipping off the end of the loop as the knot is tightened.

The 'Haywire' Twist

The Haywire Twist is considered by big game fishermen to be the strongest connection for joining wire to a hook, lure or swivel. It can also be used to make a loop in the end of a wire leader. The first twists are called haywire wraps and the second twists are considered barrel wraps. It is the combination of the two that make the Haywire Twist so dependable.

The 'FG' Knot

The FG Knot is a popular leader knot with sport fishing skippers in Australia and around the world. It is very strong and once learned it is also an easy and fast method of connecting a leader to your main line. It is absolutely reliable in all classes of line and can be used with mono, braid and fluorocarbon

The Alberto Knot is the preferred knot for an increasingly popular technique in bass fishing: Tying fluorocarbon leader to a spool of braid. This technique is gaining steam for anglers looking to have maximum action braid on the line, but present to a fish with nearly invisible fluorocarbon.

The one deterring factor in using a braid/fluoro combination is having to tie it on. Many anglers don’t employ this rig out of fear it will break off, and because they think it takes too long. That is not the case with the Alberto Knot.
